Privacy Statement Honest HZ

This page explains what Honest Hz (com.honestmeter.hz) does with data on your device, what third parties it connects to, and what you can control. It applies to the Android app available on Google Play.

The short version

  • Honest Hz collects no personal data of its own
  • It shows ads through Google AdMob, which collects an advertising ID and IP address
  • One optional in-app purchase, Honest Hz Pro, is processed by Google Play Billing
  • Every measurement you take is stored only on your device

Who we are

Honest Hz is built and published by 1314 Media in Heeze, the Netherlands. For privacy questions write to info@1314media.nl.

Data the app does not collect

The app contains no analytics SDK, no crash reporting service, and no telemetry of its own. We do not see when you open the app, which features you use, or any measurement you take. Refresh-rate sessions you save in the History tab live in a local database on your device and never leave it.

Data collected by third-party services

Google AdMob

Honest Hz shows banner ads on the Live tab and one interstitial when you tap Stop, capped at one per 60 seconds. The Google Mobile Ads SDK collects the following to serve those ads:

  • Your Android advertising ID
  • Your IP address and the approximate location derived from it
  • Device information (model, operating system version, language, app version)
  • Whether you saw or interacted with an ad

This data is processed by Google under the Google privacy policy. You can reset or limit your advertising ID at any time from Android Settings, under Privacy and Ads. If you buy Honest Hz Pro, the app stops loading and showing ads and the AdMob SDK is no longer queried for new ad requests.

Google User Messaging Platform

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland the app uses Google’s User Messaging Platform to ask for ad-personalisation consent before AdMob initialises. Your consent choice is stored locally and is honoured on every launch. You can change it later by clearing the app data in Android Settings, which prompts the consent dialog again on the next launch.

Google Play Billing

The optional Honest Hz Pro purchase removes ads on every device signed into the same Google account. Google Play Billing processes the transaction, ties it to your Google account, and tells the app whether the purchase exists. We do not receive your payment details. The app sees only a boolean flag confirming the purchase.

Permissions and why we request them

  • Internet and Access network state: required to load ads through Google AdMob and to talk to Google Play Billing.
  • Post notifications (Android 13 and above): used only when you start the optional persistent notification that shows live Hz.
  • Foreground service and Foreground service special use: needed so the live Hz monitor keeps measuring while you switch to another app.
  • System alert window: needed for the optional floating overlay bubble that shows live Hz on top of other apps. You enable this manually in Settings.
  • Package usage stats: optional, off by default. When enabled it lets the app remember which app you were testing during a measurement so the History tab can show “During Spotify” or similar. Usage stats are read on your device only and are never transmitted.

Data retention

Measurement history is stored only on your device, in the app’s private storage. Uninstalling the app removes everything. You can also tap Clear all on the History tab at any time.

Children

Honest Hz targets users aged 16 and older. The app contains no content directed at children and no features that profile or solicit information from them.

Your rights under GDPR

If you are in the European Economic Area you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to withdraw consent for any optional processing. Because Honest Hz collects no personal data of its own there is nothing on our side to access, correct, or delete. For data collected by Google AdMob, contact Google through their privacy policy. For any question or complaint write to info@1314media.nl. You can also lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Changes to this statement

If we change how the app or its third-party services use data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Substantial changes will also appear in the app’s release notes on Google Play.
